We turned a beige dining room into a Boho retreat, here's the recipe

The room we started with#

A safe beige dining room, plain drum shade, a rental-grade rectangular table, four dining chairs nobody remembers buying, and a wall of empty. The kind of space where nobody lingers after dessert.

The design brief#

Warm Bohemian, but restrained. We wanted a room that reads hosted, layered, tactile, textured, without tipping into "eclectic overload." The rules we set for ourselves:

• One statement piece, the kilim rug does the color work so everything else can stay quiet.
• Two natural materials, cane and rattan repeat, so the eye reads them as intentional rather than random.
• No metallics, brass would fight the warm-earth palette. We used matte black hardware only.

The install order#

   Clear + patch the walls

   Lay the vintage kilim first, sizing the rest of the room around it

   Pampas grass in a terracotta vessel, dead center on the table
